The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a nationally recognized studio, sustain a national/international record as a performer, engage in other research/creative activities appropriate to the discipline (master classes and presentations at the local, state, regional, national and international levels), and serve on departmental, college, and university committees. Secondary duties may include (as load requires/allows) chamber music coaching, courses in string pedagogy and/or literature, and other duties as assigned.


The School of Music at The University of Alabama invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in Studio Viola. Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and designated rank. The School of Music seeks a collaborative and engaged colleague dedicated to the growth of our program. Primary duties will be to recruit, teach, and retain students in applied viola at the undergraduate and graduate levels. A minimum of an earned Master’s Degree, professional experience, and evidence of outstanding musical artistry and effective teaching is required.

The University of Alabama, founded in 1831, is the flagship campus of the three-campus system. It is located in Tuscaloosa, a city of 100,00 that was named an All-American City by the National Civic League. The School of Music is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences and serves approximately 400 music majors and countless non-majors across the university. The School offers Bachelor of Music degrees in Performance, Music Therapy, and Theory/Composition, the Bachelor of Science degree in both instrumental and vocal/choral Music Education, and the Bachelor of Arts degree in both General Music and Music Administration. Additionally, the School offers the Master of Music degree in Performance, Composition and Musicology. And it is the only institution in the state to offer the Doctor of Musical Arts degree, doing so in Performance (including Conducting) and Composition.
