Job ID: 461. Participate in multiple levels of computer application development; including requirements definition, analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, training, and production support.
Document and analyze requirements and produce specifications for programs, functions, and applications.
Provide support and problem resolution of computer applications.
Document test plans and utilize a variety of testing methods, automating when possible.
Provide formal and informal training on a variety of computer application related topics (including programs, and functions) to IT Services and to clients.
Design, develop, modify, test and implement computer applications.
Provide and maintain documentation on computer applications.
Coordinate moderately sized projects.
Work with clients in a proactive manner, offering solutions to problems and continually striving to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of their business operation.
Build positive relationships with clients and with IT Services staff.
Learn and understand client business processes and functions.
Maintain project status reports.
Recommend solutions to project management issues.
Coordinate support with other IT Services areas and other campus units.
Serve as a liaison between clients and other IT Services staff.
Actively promote a customer-oriented approach throughout IT Services.
Participate in professional development activities.
Participate in cross-functional projects and teams.
Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
May occasionally teach one credit bearing course, per semester, on an as needed basis.
Bachelor’s degree in Systems Analysis, Computer Science, or related field required earned by date of hire, or
Bachelor’s degree in another field by date of hire and 4+ years full-time work experience developing web-based applications, or
6+ years full-time work experience developing web-based applications
2+ years work experience using database management systems in application development
2+ years work experience in web-based, application development
Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience providing the knowledge/skills/abilities listed above may be substituted. Experience in these knowledge/skills/abilities may be earned concurrently.
Highly desired areas of knowledge:
Web Services (REST, SOAP, SOA)
Developing client-facing, web-based applications using HTML and CSS
Application support, development and third party application deployment in Linux, Windows, and SaaS environments
Previous demonstrated knowledge of requirements gathering, analysis, design, and application development.
Desired areas of knowledge:
Developing web applications that are accessibility (ADA) compliant and hardened against web attacks (SQL injection, Cross-site scripting, etc.)
Web and application server administration
Higher Ed ERP systems, especially Ellucian’s Banner suite
Network architecture and concepts including DNS, DHCP, load balancing, firewall rules, analyzing logs
Designing applications for high availability
Appropriate error handling and logging
Agile development, including Scrum and/or Kanban
Developing, executing, and automating test plans
XML and/or XSLT
LDAP, Active Directory
Authentication methods (CAS, Shibboleth)
Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with current web application development in a multi-browser environment and multiple current industry programming languages
Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with relational database management systems in application development
Ability and willingness to work as part of a team and be accountable to that team
Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with Linux and desktop operating systems
Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with application development and the Solution Development Life Cycle
Verbal and written communication skills; including communicating technical information in terms understandable to the end user
Customer service skills; including diplomatically, patiently, and successfully handling complaints, problems, questions, conflict, and suggestions
Ability to analyze causes of client problems and generate solutions
Ability to learn and utilize new tools, languages, and concepts
