The Staff Psychologist performs the duties of a psychologist, providing clinical services to students and consultation services to faculty and staff.  This position also provides targeted outreach and clinical services to populations of domestic students traditionally underserved as a function of race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, etc., and assists the training director in coordinating training in psychological assessment.


 Provides multi-culturally informed psychological services, including general psychological, substance use, and attention problem evaluations and individual and group counseling and psychotherapy to Miami University students presenting a wide range of mental health concerns. 

  • Intervenes in crisis and emergency situations of a mental health nature with students, including after hours on-call responsibilities.              
  • Consults with faculty, staff and other professionals regarding the mental health needs of students.
  • Initiates and responds to requests to provide psycho-educational programming within a public health model to various groups within the university community.
  • Provides clinical supervision and training of staff, psychology interns within the SCS APA-accredited psychology internship training program, and other trainees such as doctoral and masters level students from Miami’s APA-accredited Clinical Psychology Training Program, commensurate with the staff member’s licensure status.
  • Maintains clinical records and provides clinical documentation and communication with external practitioners as necessary for ethical clinical treatment.
  • Attends and participates in clinical staff meetings and consultations.
  • Assumes responsibility for other assignments including serving on divisional and university committees.
  • Through outreach efforts and clinical expertise, develops liaison relationships with selected groups of domestic students whose race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, ability status, etc. has historically been associated with under-utilization of mental health services.  Specific populations targeted will be determined by departmental need as well as expertise of the psychologist.
  • Assists the Training Director in providing and coordinating training in psychological assessment for the pre-doctoral psychology intern training program.
  • Takes on administrative duties in areas to be determined jointly with Director, with the option of defining a coordinator level role, based on the evolving needs of the department and the expertise and interest of the psychologist.

Minimum Qualifications

The Staff Psychologist has earned, or is in the process of earning, a doctorate in psychology, and is licensed or actively working toward licensure as a psychologist in Ohio.  Additionally, this person has demonstrated special training and experience in multicultural mental health services specifically and the mental health needs of university students generally.

Preferred Qualifications

Three or more years of licensure as a psychologist and interest and experience in psychological assessment and report writing.
