Support users of mechanical laboratory apparatus and equipment through maintenance and repair. Design and construct specialized and custom instruments and apparatus in collaboration with Instrumentation Engineer and client. Utilize Instrumentation Laboratory machine shop to provide effective support to our clientele through safe and proper operation of tools and equipment. Coordinate instrumentation repair activities with clientele as assigned by Director.
1. Instrument repair and preventative maintenance
2. Custom apparatus fabrication: w/o documents (mechanical designer)
3. Instrumentation/ experimental design: Consultation with faculty and students on repairs and custom apparatus.
4. Maintains supplies inventory, machine tools, and shop equipment.
5. Perform other duties relevant to the Instrumentation Laboratory mission as assigned by the Director.
Demonstrated skill at mechanical repair, mechanical design, and machine shop operations. Ability to use Autodesk/Inventor, or some comparable CAD system for CAD work. High School diploma or GED. Ability to work well with diverse group of people.
Specific experience with vacuum pumps and other laboratory apparatus. Plumbing, welding, and minor electrical repair experience desirable. Technical education in relevant field desirable.
