Primary responsibility of this position is to lead, develop, and deliver comprehensive student employment placement services and student internship placement services in support of students’ educational, occupational and personal growth. He/She will develop permanent job and internship placement opportunities for a diverse student population including graduate, undergraduate students, minority students, online and nontraditional students. He/She will also maintain and update a job placement and internship database. He/She will facilitate placement of students in positions related to their academic major. He/She will also compile, maintain, and input salary and employment data into centralized employment database to generate placement statistics. He/She will oversee the maintenance of accurate records of student information. The position will work predominantly with students at the College of Arts and Sciences and at the College of Education and Organizational Leadership.

Specific Duties

Be the primary contact for College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the College of Education and Organizational Leadership (CEOL) for placement purposes. Identify, cultivate, and source job and internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students; place undergraduates and graduate students in jobs and internships. Review and prospect applicable job opportunities on job advertising websites, company websites and career/employment related websites. Promote opportunities to students using traditional and new media. Develop action plans for potential employment opportunities for students in the employment sector of his/her focus area. Maintain a database reflecting job search progress, including counseling notes, and placement status of matriculating students. Create regular follow-up mechanisms to maintain current job search status of all students. Recruit and collaborate with faculty to coordinate department level internship programs. Establish partnerships with academic departments and faculty in linking students to internships, jobs and graduate schools. Coordinate with Alumni Relations, Institutional Research, and other core constituents to administer the pre-grad, at-grad and recent graduate surveys to ensure the highest rates of survey completion with regards to starting salary information, title of position, name and contact information of employers, and input this information into campus wide centralized databank for reporting purposes. Review, organize, and compile survey data to assess employment rates. Report out on status and placement outcomes. In coordination with the other members of the Career Services Office, La Verne Corporate Recruiters, University Advancement, and CBPM Placement Specialists, establish and maintain employer relations for the purpose of providing internship opportunities and job placement for undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates. Maintain a database of employers.Recruit new organizations to participate in career fairs, on campus recruiting, job postings and other programs. Assist in implementation of annual large scale career events, including career fairs, job coaching events, and professional development workshops. In coordination with Career Development and Placement Specialists and other Career Services’ personnel, plan and deliver a series of workshops during the academic year to enhance student internship and job placement success.Visit on a semester basis all undergraduate and graduate level experiential learning courses to ensure that the students are aware of the position and to coordinate with the faculty for these classes the development of skills needed for students to be successfully placed upon graduation.Participate in office and divisional planning and goal setting meetings. Use and remain current in technology applications within the office, including but not limited to web-based products and services, and employer and student online services. Perform other duties as requested by Assistant Dean.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, psychology, business, human resources or related field. Job placement and internship coordination experience (2-3 years).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a university setting and career services.
