The University of Alabama’s interdisciplinary New College invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Arts Entrepreneurship. We seek a critically engaged arts scholar and/or arts practitioner with extensive experience in arts entrepreneurship, business, and/or creative industries for a tenure-track (9-month) faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 16, 2015. The successful candidate will maintain a research and/or art-making program that may contain a discipline-specific component but should also include a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinarity. Artistic area of speciality is open, including the full spectrum from traditional object-making to social practice oriented work.
A completed Ph.D. or MFA in the arts or an arts-related field is required.
The successful candidate will be appointed to New College within the University’s College of Arts and Sciences. She or he will teach courses in an interdisciplinary teaching program within New College (potentially including a large-scale “Experiencing the Arts” introductory arts course, lower-level “Creativity” and “Perspectives in Humanities” seminars, and upper-level interdisciplinary seminars focusing on the arts and entrepreneurship). Required also is the ability to advise a diverse group of students with varied interests in the arts and entrepreneurship, but who also venture into new media, critical theory, arts policy, and management.
