Responsible for the support of the Biology, Agriculture, Physics, and Geology laboratory operation including setting up labs, making solutions, maintaining inventory, and managing lab staff
This is full-time exempt position with a hiring range of $34,000 to $40,800.
Prepares materials, sets up, and tears down laboratories for Biology, Agriculture, Physics, and Geology:
Gathers necessary equipment, supplies, chemicals, glassware, and specimens.
Makes solutions in necessary amounts.
Sets up laboratories in layout requested by instructors.
Tears down lab: removes equipment and supplies from rooms; cleans desks, counters, and sinks.
Prepares microbiological culture media, stains, and disinfectants.
Restocks all inventory as necessary.
Maintains chemical inventory:
Tracks inventory of chemicals and supplies and maintains database.
Obtains and organizes necessary MSDS sheets.
Organizes and stores chemicals in accordance with State and Federal laws.
Ensures chemicals are stored safely and securely to prevent accidents or improper use.
Maintains paper work for Alcohol permit.
Maintains inventory of other supplies and equipment:
Purchases consumable and non-consumable supplies for labs and maintains organized inventory.
Inventories and organizes equipment to ensure availability next semester.
Works with Instructors to purchase needed classroom laboratory supplies.
Coordinates routine repair and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Monitors lab software for upgrades and licensing.
Partakes in on- and off-campus training courses on professional development, lab safety, bio and chemical hazardous waste storage and disposal, etc.
Plant, and microbiological care:
Maintains plant inventory.
Maintains microbiology cultures as necessary.
Responsible for timely transfer and long term viability of cultures.
Ensures laboratories are clean and safe:
Washes dishes and glassware.
Sweeps, mops floors, wipes counters, and dusts as necessary.
Identifies and disposes of hazardous chemicals in accordance with Federal and State Policies.
Interprets safety regulations.
Ensures appropriate use of PPE.
Coordinates regular inspections of safety equipment.
Selects and trains lab staff.
Performs annual evaluations of lab staff.
Teaches proper use and maintenance of equipment.
Assigns tasks and responsibilities to lab staff.
Monitors lab staff time cards.
Conveys by words and action the values expected by CWI.
Performs other duties as assigned
BS/BA in Biology
Experience with handling and care of plants
Experience with microbiological materials
Ability to coordinate through effective communication with faculty and staff
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and general computer use
Excellent organizational skills
Experience with setup of teaching laboratories
Previous laboratory experience at a college or professional laboratory
