Detailed Job Description
The Payroll Tax Specialist is responsible for the processing and payment of all payroll liability accounts, taxes, voluntary/involuntary deductions and retirement contributions. The Payroll Tax Specialist provides advice on payroll tax regulations, and recommends and implements new and/or updated policies and procedures to ensure compliance. The Payroll Tax Specialist monitors tax records, prepares quarterly and year-end tax forms, including 941, W2 and 1099 forms. The Payroll Tax Specialist is responsible for ensuring successful completion of all payroll cycles in a timely and accurate manner and the communication of disbursement related accounting policies, practices, and procedures with department and College managers. In addition, the Payroll Tax Specialist prepares, analyzes and adjusts financial entries, documents, and reports. Serves as the daily back up in the absence of the Disbursements Manager.
Bachelor's Degree in accounting or business related discipline required.
Minimum of 5 years of professional tax and/or payroll accounting experience which includes experience using large complex automated payroll systems.
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software.
Intermediate knowledge of disbursements related rules, regulations, and laws including:
Federal state and local tax, reporting, and documentation requirements
All facets of payroll principles, methods, systems and procedures as applied to public institutions.
All relevant payroll, employment, and income tax laws, regulations and operating guidelines.
Payroll aspects of employee benefit policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.
Ability to work well under pressure with attention to details and deadlines with minimal supervision.
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with students, administrators, faculty, staff, vendors, consultants, governmental agencies, and the public.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated experience with collaborative and team experiences.
Ability to mentor, counsel, and motivate others; ability to lead and facilitate process improvement teams; and ability to initiate and execute special projects.
CPP or FPC certification
Previous supervisory experience
