Detailed Job Description

Under the direction of the Director of Campus Safety, patrol the University campus, including buildings, grounds and other university property to maintain a safe environment for students, staff and faculty; enforce University rules and regulations including the University Parking Regulations, Student Conduct Code, and Penal Code laws and regulations; secure and open buildings on the college campus properties; provide student escort services, information and assistance to students, staff, faculty and campus visitors.

Specific Duties

-Patrol the University campus, including buildings, grounds and other University property to maintain a safe environment for students, staff and faculty; investigate violations and crimes; issue parking notices, escort university assets, and escort persons from campus as necessary; drive a vehicle, electric cart, or ride a bicycle to conduct work.
-Enforce University rules and regulations, including the University Parking Regulations, Student Conduct Code, and Penal Code laws and regulations.
-Verify credentials of persons on campus and prevent and grant entry where appropriate; escort visitors from campus and other restricted areas; secure and open buildings, lock doors and gates.
-Respond to a variety of emergencies and non-emergency calls involving thorough investigations, such as medical emergencies, traffic accidents, terrorist threats bomb threats workplace violence, domestic violence, crime situations, including stalking, felony assault, and other various incidents.
-Conduct thorough investigations and evaluate various incidents; photograph pertinent aspects of incidents as necessary; obtain related information to address the issue of Risk Management prepare incident reports as necessary and submit to appropriate personnel.
-Serve as liaison during disasters such as fires and earthquakes; respond to hazardous materials spills, industrial accidents, and emergencies and take appropriate action.
-Operate various campus systems, including water valves, electric switches and related systems during emergency situations; investigate unusual conditions and take immediate action to reduce danger and possible malfunction of equipment; notify appropriate departments regarding impaired equipment.
-Assist and respond to various medical emergencies according to established procedures; perform CPR/First Aid and operate an Automatic External Defibrillator as necessary; respond to emergency medical situations including illnesses, shock, seizures and bleeding; summon appropriate medical personnel.
-Provide information and respond to inquiries from students, staff and visitors; provide directions to campus locations and information related to University programs and services.
-Respond to requests to block off Parking Lots and spaces at the request of the Parking Department as needed.
-All other related assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED equivalent
832 P.C. course
B.S.I.S. guard card
First Aid/CPR AED card
DMV Print out

Preferred Qualifications

60 units of College course work.

One year experience in security officer duties in a higher educational environment.

Familiar with security and fire alarms, two-way radio communications, computers, tablets, and smart phone devices.
