Detailed Job Description

The HR Assistant performs the critical role of being the first point of contact for the Office of Human Resources and liaison to the RISD community. In addition the role involves a variety of administrative support functions to help ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Human Resources Department. The Assistant coordinates incoming and outgoing requests; gathers contextual information to help ascertain nature of inquiries; answers routine questions regarding standard policies, procedures, and events; and escalates or refers as appropriate. Manages the Vice Presidents and Directors calendars and coordinates travel arrangements and meetings. In addition, assembles and distills information from a wide variety of sources and prepares correspondence, reports, presentations, agendas, and minutes; tracks and reports on departmental expenditures & provides administrative support to and logistical coordination for special projects and events.  


Associates degree or equivalent business/office management background and/or secretarial related training.

Three years of administrative experience.

Ability to anticipate Vice President's and HR Directors' needs.

Ability to build rapport and interact with multiple diverse populations, exercise diplomacy, and help foster a community environment.

Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information and to analyze and synthesize the same.

Excellent detail orientation, customer service skills, interpersonal skills, time management skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task.

Proven proficiency using computer software such as MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Google, and database programs.
