The Department of Social Work at the Metropolitan State University of Denver is seeking applicants for one temporary full time Lecturer (Category II) position with a focus on teaching in one or more of the following areas: Practice, Research, and/or Policy. Applicants are encouraged to have expertise in one or more of the following areas: Mental Health, Behavioral Health, Health Care, Addictions, Children, Youth, Families, Community Organizing, Organizational Change, Power, Privilege and Oppression, Social Work Theory, and Philosophy. Position will be for the 2015-2016 academic year with possible renewal based on funding.
Teaching: The successful candidate will have primary assignment to the BSW program and teach in the areas of departmental need and candidate qualifications. Teaching will consist of 24 semester credits per academic year. Instruction may also include MSW courses. Teaching may include online, face to face, and hybrid instruction; face-to-face instruction may include day, evening, and weekend as needed. The successful candidate may also take on lead faculty responsibilities for specific courses and be responsible to update and modify online and on campus course material. The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups. Advising: In addition, under reassigned time, the successful candidate will advise a designated load of primarily BSW students and perform foundational advisement for students in the major.
Scholarly Activities: The successful candidate is encouraged to have an active and ongoing scholarly agenda and produce peer reviewed scholarship as a way of staying academically qualified. Reappointment does not depend on scholarly productivity.
Service: The successful candidate will perform service work including work on departmental committees as assigned by the Chair. Candidates are encouraged to maintain an active service involvement in their professional communities as a way of remaining academically qualified. Candidates may also be asked to serve on Department, College, or University committees.
1) Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited institution.
2) Two (2) years relevant post-MSW experience.
1) Doctorate in Social Work or related field from regionally-accredited institution of higher learning.
2) Five years post-MSW practice experience
3) Social work education experience
4) Previous teaching in an online or distributed learning context
5) Previous teaching or practice experience serving first generation college
students and/or historically marginalized populations.
