The Director of Purchasing reports directly to the Controller and is responsible for planning, directing and managing the College’s procurement operations in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
The Director of Purchasing manages a comprehensive system for procurement of goods and services; ensures compliance with state, federal, and local laws and regulations, as well as institutional policies and procedures; facilitates the acquisition of competitively priced goods and services at an appropriate level of quality; negotiates contracts and liaises with vendors; manages the institutions systems for purchase requisitions and orders; and administrates procurement and travel cards. The Director supervises two purchasing agents, works collaboratively with the College Business Office, and demonstrates responsiveness to the Vice President for Administrative Services.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business or similar field of study and two to four years of procurement or accounting experience. A Master’s Degree and work experience in a higher education setting is preferred. A comprehensive knowledge of state procurement codes is desirable. The successful candidate will be a conceptual, analytical and creative thinker with strong interpersonal and management skills, exhibit the ability to research and incorporate state procurement code and other applicable regulations, possess a high energy level, have a strong commitment to the community college, and philosophy of stewardship. The candidate should value diversity and have a multi-cultural perspective with adult/minority students, as well as be an excellent communicator.
Physical Requirements: varied standing, walking, sitting, bending, lifting up to 25 lbs as related to office supplies, books or related equipment. All candidates are subject to a Criminal Background Investigation prior to any offer of employment.
