The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate applied piano, and will also participate in student recruiting, auditions, recital hearings, committees, and governance structures of the school. Additional teaching responsibilities may include piano literature, accompanying, improvisation, etc., based on the needs of the curricula and candidate qualifications. The successful candidate must establish and maintain a successful recruitment/retention record, creative/scholarly activities, and service contributions appropriate for a university faculty member.


The School of Music at The University of Alabama invites applications for full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in Piano. Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and designated rank. A Doctorate or Master’s degree combined with significant/outstanding professional experience is required. Significant university teaching and wide-ranging performing experience is preferred. An active professional career with the potential for excellence as a successful faculty member with a commitment to recruiting outstanding students and the ability to attract and retain graduate and undergraduate students is expected.

The University of Alabama, founded in 1831, is the flagship campus of the three-campus system. The School of Music is part of the College of Arts and Sciences and serves approximately 400 music majors and numerous non-majors across the university. The School offers Bachelor of Music degrees in Performance, Music Therapy, and Theory/Composition, the Bachelor of Science degree in both instrumental and vocal/choral Music Education, and the Bachelor of Arts degree in both General Music and Music Administration. Additionally, the School offers the Master of Music degree in Performance, Composition and Musicology. And it is the only institution in the state to offer the Doctor of Musical Arts degree, doing so in Performance (including Conducting) and Composition.
