Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service, is seeking candidates for a non-tenure track position in video production. We are seeking a candidate with expertise in creative non-fiction storytelling, who also can oversee studio production and post-production. The position is at the instructor or assistant professor level in the Department of Communication, to begin in Fall 2015.
We seek a colleague whose teaching is grounded in ethics, aesthetics, and narrative. Responsibilities include teaching classes such as Video Production and Design, Studio Production, and Media Scriptwriting, as well as developing student practica. We also seek a candidate who can network with local professionals and organizations, oversee our transition from Final Cut Pro to Avid, and participate in department service.
Requirements: Earned MA, MFA, or PhD degree by August 1, 2015, documented teaching experience and excellence, an ability to build networks within the professional community, a record of professional expertise, and knowledge of various editing software, Adobe Creative Suite and the components of a television studio.
Communication is a thriving department in the College of Arts and Sciences, with about 200 undergraduate majors, 35 minors, 20 M.A. students, and 15 full-time faculty members. We have an undergraduate curriculum that stresses both the theoretical understanding and professional application of communication research within five different concentrations: advertising and public relations; journalism and media studies; leadership, organizing, and relating; communication, culture, and community; and communication studies. Our program emphasizes cultural competence and ethical reflection across the curriculum. Our master's program includes courses in the areas of media studies, strategic communication, and communication studies. The department has a Communication Media Center, Studio Production Suite, and several computer labs to support student learning related to technology and production.
