Detailed Job Description

The Academic Advisor provides guidance and assistance to undergraduate students in developing an academic program that meets their career goals and fulfills the requirements of the chosen major. May also maintain student records and verify that degree requirements have been met.

Additional Department Summary:

Responsibilities include advising undergraduate students on a daily basis. Meet with prospective students and parents and attends some recruiting events. Monitor and verify Alabama State Dept. of Education (SDE) requirements for internship eligibility, including test scores, admissions data, coursework, and other criteria as mandated by the SDE. Assist Registrar in monitoring graduate and undergraduate candidates in state-approved programs for educator preparation and certification.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher and some relevant experience. Student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student oriented experience will be considered. To be considered student experience, it must be detailed in the employment section on the application.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

Valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an acceptable motor vehicle record as determined by the insurance carrier.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Education or closely related field. Master's degree preferred. A minimum of one year teaching experience preferred. Based on Qualifications
