The Staff Psychologist provides clinical services to itsclients.
Additional Department Summary:
The Staff Psychologist provides directcounseling services to enrolled University students, outreach and consultationservices to members of the University community, and, as needed, training tostudents in the mental health professions. The staff psychologist is expectedto rotate on-call throughout the year for the purpose of crisis interventionservices.It is understood that the Staff Psychologistwill make adjustments in his or her work schedule during low clinicalutilization periods, such that outreach and consultation services will requirea larger percentage of their time than what is outlined above. By the sametoken, during high clinical utilization periods clinical duties may require alarger portion of time than what is reflected above.Outreach and consultation activities require theincumbent to actively develop and market these services.Due to the complex nature of human problems,this position requires a high degree of sophistication of thought andcreativity. The Staff Psychologist routinely works with people in distress andencounters life-threatening emergencies. The person in this position will, forexample, intervene with a student who is acutely suicidal and making threats inhis or her residential area. Such situations call for excellent judgment,problem solving, and a thorough knowledge of the myriad factors behind theresolution of psychological problems.The Staff Psychologist is expected to beknowledgeable about and adhere to all policies and procedures as contained inthe Counseling Center Policy and Procedure Manual. The incumbent will alsofollow Quality Improvement standards.Along with all staff, the staff psychologistshould have a proven record of and continually demonstrate exemplary attitudesand performance in the areas of teamwork and proactively assisting allconstituencies within the scope of the Counseling Center mission.
Required Minimum Qualifications
A Doctoral degree in Clinical orCounseling Psychology completed by start date OR an official letter receiveddocumenting that all doctoral degree requirements have been met and specifyingthe graduation date, which must occur during the Psychologist' introductoryperiod of the first six months of employment. Two years mental-health relatedwork experience. Must be licensed as a Psychologist in the state of Alabama orlicense-eligible and attain licensure within one year of employment. Basiccomputer skills. Ability to work some non-traditional hours.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:
A Doctoral Degreein Clinical or Counseling Psychology is required for this position. Two yearsrelevant work experience, preferably in a college counseling center setting, isrequired for this position. The Staff Psychologist should be licensed orlicense-eligible upon employment and attain licensure within one year ofemployment.This position requires basic computer skillssuch as word processing and email, and the ability to effectively interact withUniversity community members for the purpose of program development. Thisposition requires some after-hours work. The staff psychologist is expected torotate on-call throughout the year for the purpose of crisis interventionservices.
College or University counseling centerexperience preferred, or two years relevant work experience.Based on Qualifications
