As a Senior Financial Aid Counselor, this individual will have the ability and capability to troubleshoot, problem solve and answer detailed questions related to financial aid and student eligibility. Provide professional support services in the Office of Financial Aid. Deliver superior customer service and counseling to all student populations related to the dissemination and processing of information about student financial aid. The individual will be an ambassador for the financial aid office both on and off campus, meeting directly with prospective students and their families, communicating by phone and E-mail, and conducting financial aid presentations in the community. This position requires a pleasant disposition and excellent written and communication skills. The responsibilities related to this position are necessary to ensure the success of the Office of Financial Aid.
-Serve as the primary point of contact for all students applying for financial aid at the University.
-Provide guidance and information to students related to the financial aid process.
-Counsel students, prospective students, and parents regarding financial aid opportunities and resources in English and Spanish.
-Intervene and act as student advocate to ensure that students are informed about financial aid eligibility and receive financial aid funds within a timely manner; serve as resource for students and parents with special requests, appeals and complaints.
-Full counseling duties including but not limited to receiving, scanning and indexing of documents from students, advising and repackaging students. Ensuring all appropriate documents are completed by students to ensure the timely process of financial is not delayed.
-Personable to answer the ACD phone.
-Responsible to answer financial aid emails.
-Attend High School visits and participate in on and off campus presentations in English and Spanish.
- Support University enrollment and retention goals, providing processing support to other departments within Office of Financial Aid.
-Front counter coverage as needed.
-Determine eligibility for federal, state and institutional financial aid programs; notify and explain financial aid eligibility to students and parents.
-Responsible and accountable for the management and flow of all documents within the Office of Financial Aid.
-Maintain current knowledge of regulations, laws, and trends in student financial aid and federal and state legislations as they apply to the University.
-Participate in on-going training activities and other special assignments.
-Utilizing all systems to determine eligibility and troubleshoot reasons for Financial Aid not disbursing, i.e. COD, NSLDS, CPS.
-Verifying student files.
-Administering and awarding of Graduate Assistantship and Stipends, as well as named Scholarships.
-Assist in the administering of named scholarships along with other senior financial aid counselors.
-Responsible for determining and processing special circumstances and professional judgment requests.
Bachelors degree in a job related field or 5 years of professional experience in financial aid. Additional experience which the incumbent has acquired may be substituted for the required education on a year-for -year basis.
Bachelors degree preferred or equivalent years of related on the job experience. Knowledge of financial aid regulations and practices. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Excellent customer service skills, ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
Bilingual in Spanish
