Detailed Job Description

Reporting to the University of La Verne’s CMO, the Web Developer will work with the Office of Strategic Communications to support the University’s digital communication and website maintenance efforts.

Specific Duties

Primary duties and responsibilities include:

1) Collaborate with departments throughout campus to assist in site maintenance, including frontend and backend design changes and content updates

2) Troubleshoot WordPress feature and functionality issues for all University sites

3) Evaluate existing plugins and requests for new functionality and present recommendations to lead developer. Perform regular plugin and theme updates in a version-controlled GIT environment

4) Assist with end user WordPress training

5) Assist in the design, production, and deployment of email messages

6) Suggest new site features that increase visitor engagement and conversion

7) Other duties as assigned

8) General technical troubleshooting

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications include:

1) Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, digital design, human-computer interaction, computer science or related field

2) Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in website production for a Web company, interactive agency or higher education institution

3) Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite CS6 or above, including Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Illustrator

4) Expert level with the following technologies: Javascript, JQuery, CSS3, (X)HTML, HTML5, XML, XSLT, preferably in Web 2.0

5) Understanding of Server languages PHP, SQL for MySQL server; and understanding of WYSIWYG editors or blogging tools like WordPress. Experience creating or editing themes and plugins preferred.

6) Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

7) Effective in document writing and technical writing

8) Proven track record of multi-tasking and overseeing numerous projects of various sizes and hitting deadlines
