Under the direction of the Vice President of Development and Alumni, the Associate Vice President of Development will oversee development units within the Division of Development and Alumni and serve as the UVU Foundation’s Chief Operating Officer. The Development Group comprises Development Services, Corporate Engagement, Gift Planning, Major Gifts, and Prospect Research. Specific duties of the Associate VP include managing all fund-raising efforts undertaken by individual colleges and personally managing and soliciting a modest portfolio of major gifts prospects. The Associate Vice President will collaborate closely with colleagues leading the Donor Engagement Group and the Alumni Relations and Annual Giving Group. As Chief Operating Officer of the Foundation, this individual also oversees the Foundation’s administrative and accounting staff.
Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a doctorate degree and a minimum of three years of recent experience in a related field within higher education in a strategic leadership role, including management of departments and programs OR a master’s degree in a related field and five years of related experience within higher education in a strategic leadership role, including management of departments and programs.
Knowledge of and significant direct experience with fund raising procedures, techniques, and the ability to apply this knowledge in personal fund raising.
Basic knowledge of contracts and agreements.
Knowledge of the operation of a foundation, including understanding of the required financial, compliance, and regulatory affairs procedures.
Knowledge of best practices in board leadership.
Knowledge of best practices in staff management and mentoring.
Knowledge of fund-raising best-practices and legal, compliance, and ethical constraints.
Knowledge of and direct experience with best practices for comprehensive development campaigns. Knowledge of best practices in direct solicitation,foundation accounting, prospect research, gift planning, stewardship, annual giving, and development services, including gift accounting, gift processing, and development technology and database oeprations.
Knowledge of tax law pertaining to philanthropy.
Knowledge of general sound business practices.
Knowledge of budgeting procedures.

Robust skill in reading, understanding, and evaluating legal documents.
