Under the direction of the Instructional Research and Information leadership team, researches information to support the planning, measurement, and evaluation of the university’s mission and goals and the communities it serves. Helps develop research methodology designed to guide decision-makers solve problems and address issues. Maintains information and reports and communicates findings relevant to the process of solving specified problems. Institutional Research and Information (IRI) is organized into two teams: (1) Assessment Support, Analysis, and Survey Research and (2) Data Management, Analysis, and Reporting. Although general skillsets needed for each role are similar, specific skills may be emphasized depending on the vacancy being filled.
This position will be supporting the area of Student Success & Retention. Candidates should be familiar with IPEDS surveys and data especially those which report retention, graduation, and completions. The person should be familiar with the purpose and use of cohorts to track student retention, progress, and success. An understanding of research surrounding student retention, graduation, and completion is also desired.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Public Administration, Education Administration, Business Administration, Research/Evaluation or a related field or a combination of education and experience totaling four years.
Intermediate level: Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience or a master’s degree or any combination of education and experience totaling six years. Related degrees might include: Administration (Educational, Public, or Business), Behavioral Science, Research/Evaluation, Information Systems, etc.
Senior level: Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree and three years of related experience or a master’s degree plus one year of related experience or any combination of education and experience totaling seven years. Related degrees might include: Administration (Educational, Public, or Business), Behavioral Science, Research/Evaluation, Information Systems, etc.
Basic understanding of research/assessment design in social science, including questionnaire design, survey methodology, descriptive and inferential statistics.
Knowledge and use of computer systems and software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
Commitment to championing data-informed decision making, practice, and professional development.
Principled dedication to issues of privacy and compliance (including FERPA, HIPPA, etc.).
Skill in verbal and written communication, both in informal and formal contexts.
Skill in the effective visualization of data.
Attention to detail and clarity.
Ability to support a project from inception through the design, implementation, and extraction/collection of data to the creation of the final report and presentation.
Ability to present themselves as professional, competent, and cordial.
Ability to collaborate within the department and with data stewards and custodians.
