Job Responsibilities

Recruits, convenes, and utilizes a Mandel Center Advisory Committee of business, community, and educational leaders in collaboration with the College’s President

Creates and encourages the dissemination of Mandel Center research in a variety of local, regional, and international venues

Provides leadership and guidance for intensifying College-wide student engagement in humanities and public service

Collaborates with faculty in curriculum development and deployment that uses technology-rich, inquiry-based learning that aligns with the mission of the College and the Mandel Center

Leverages Mandel Center resources with grant agencies and foundations

Hires, empowers, and evaluates the performance of the Mandel Center staff

Manages and maintains the physical environments of the Mandel Center

Identifies prominent national social science experts to serve as guest lecturers and participate in seminars and other learning activities

Creates and administers a series of significant educational events connecting key themes and research results in the Mandel Scholars Academy

Oversees a recruitment plan to secure student internships and applications for the Scholars Academy

Collaborates with faculty, students, and local communities (public, private, and not-for-profit) to provide Mandel Scholars with a “living laboratory” to engage in social and civic research

Creates and maintains a Mandel Scholars mentoring program that maximizes students’ educational potential using Mandel Leadership Development Program and Tri-C faculty

Recruits and advises high potential individuals including honors, international, and veteran students

Enhances the College-wide honors program

Attracts, recruits, and retains outstanding liberal arts faculty

Works with four-year partners in aligning the College’s Mandel Scholars educational activities that maximizes Mandel Scholars transfer opportunities

Supports the teaching and service of distinguished faculty members, including mentoring highly successful humanities faculty

Facilitates student and faculty educational and research experiences

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

Ph.D. in a humanities discipline (e.g. literature, philosophy, history) or a related field (e.g. social science)

Minimum of five years of collegiate teaching experience

Minimum of five years of administrative, management, or supervisory experience in an academic program

Demonstrated established scholarship with a national or international expertise

Demonstrated experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary faculty

Demonstrated experience implementing and evaluating academic programs

Demonstrated successful grant-writing experience

Demonstrated executive experience planning, assigning, scheduling, supervising and ensuring the quality of the work of others

Demonstrated experience forecasting, planning, maintaining, preparing, and monitoring a business area’s budget

Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have significant, broad implications on the management and operations of a division (or equivalent business area)

Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem solving methods in adaptive situations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all constituents

Ability to establish mutually beneficial ties with industry and the local community

Ability to develop, organize, and coordinate a wide variety of instructional programs and events to achieve the Mandel Center vision and goals

Demonstrated leadership skills

Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, staff, and faculty throughout the College and with external partners

Must be open-minded, a creative thinker, and a problem solver

Must be able to articulate inter-textual and interdisciplinary needs of students and the impact they have on humanities

Must be able to think across curricular units and work with students to design interdisciplinary/ individualized degree programs

Demonstrated commitment to student success and to enhancing teaching and learning

Ability to lead faculty teams in projects and the development of new programs and projects

Excellent planning, organization, and communication (verbal and written) skills

General knowledge and ability of transfer opportunities with four year partners

Ability to independently set goals and determine best course of action to achieve desired results

Possesses comprehensive knowledge of leadership theories, concepts and practices with the ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations as it pertains to the departmental focus

Demonstrated advanced Project Management skills

Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity

Ability to collaborate, persuade, gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas on significant projects

Ability to collaborate, negotiate and resolve conflicts on major projects

Ability to facilitate top-level collaboration while managing sensitive issues

Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance work flow and quality

Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

Certificate or formal training in leadership

Minimum of ten years of collegiate experience

Minimum of five years of administrative, management, or supervisory experience in an academic program

Demonstrated experience in a leadership role (such as a Dean or Director) in an Honors or Academic Center

Work Schedule

Standard college hours of operation, M-F 8:30am – 5:00pm
