Detailed Job Description

The Director of Institutional Giving engages, qualifies, solicits, and stewards a unique, assigned portfolio of the institution’s most significant donors and prospects in order to support the university’s central priorities, complementing the efforts of development personnel focused on college and school priorities. The Director will play a major role both in building strong giving relationships with key donor families, private foundations, and corporations as well as in attracting new prospective major donors to the institution. The Director’s primary areas of focus are the engagement of new, high-level prospects and supporting the management of existing donors’ relationships at the institutional level with identified university level priorities. Under the direction of the Vice President of Development and Alumni, the Director will work in close collaboration with colleagues within the Division, the President of the university and other executives, Deans and program leaders, and leading volunteers.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline plus three years of staff level experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling seven years.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree plus 7 years of professional fundraising and/or donor stewardship work experience in a higher education setting or a combination of related education and experience totaling 11 years. Master’s degree is preferred. A valid Driver’s License is required.


Knowledge of fund raising procedures, techniques, strategies and execution.
Strong knowledge of effective web-based search engines and search strategies.
Knowledge of academic operations, governance, and culture.
Knowledge of gift planning strategies.
Knowledge of working with individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
Knowledge of creating proposals, gift agreements, memos of understanding, case statements, and other development collateral.
Thorough knowledge of scholarship awarding practices.


Strong aptitude with standard office productivity software which must include Microsoft Office programs.
Effective problem solving and decision-making skills.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills.
Strong strategic planner and critical thinking skills.

Ability to freely navigate the Orem campus, visit other campus locations, and attend local and national meetings and events.
Must have the ability to travel as needed.

Pay Range

$50,427 to $67,236 annually
