Capitol Reef Field Station (CRFS) is located within Capitol Reef National Park and functions as an education and research center under the direction of Utah Valley University (UVU) in partnership with Capitol Reef National Park (CARE). The CRFS Site Manager resides at the field station during periods of station visitation and on a regular basis to maintain safety and manage daily operations of the site. First contact for guests visiting the station and is responsible for providing an orientation and for facilitating some guest activities. Reports directly to the Capitol Reef Field Station Director.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Ecology, or related areas and one year of related experience or a combination of relevant education and experience totaling 4 years
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required. Master’s degree preferred. Degree(s) or experience in one or more of the following fields preferred: Life Sciences, Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Ecology, Outdoor Recreation, Interpretation, or related areas.
Additionally, at least 1 year of documented experience in field work or interpretive employment is required.
Knowledge of environmental issues relating to field station management especially within a national park.
Knowledge of the natural history of the Colorado Plateau.
Knowledge of environmental health and safety policy, both generally and specific to natural hazards of remote areas.
Knowledge and experience with scheduling.
Demonstrated skills in experiential education.
Skill in working with governmental/federal agencies.
Skill in writing and preparing of documents, including grant proposals, progress reports, final reports, and annual reports.
Skill in development and implementation of policies and procedures.
Skill in research, and in collecting, and analyzing scientific data.
Skill in computer technology such as e-mail, databases management, word-processing, spreadsheet management, and others.
Skill in treatment and management of drinking water and solar power preferred.
Demonstrated ability to communicate at an effective and professional level, both written and verbally.
Demonstrated ability to understand and carry out minor maintenance of facility operations.
Flexibility in regards to work schedule and hours. Ability to live in an isolated environment where conditions may vary.
Ability to work outdoors and perform physical labor.
Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of people including researchers, students, government officials, donors and local community members.
