Under the direction of the Department Chair, develop and teach courses and associated hands-on laboratories in the degree programs of Mechatronics (AAS and BS); conducts assigned undergraduate and/or graduate courses and seminars. Plans, prepares, and follows an approved (ETAC/ABET) course of study with measurable objectives. Serves on college/school or university committees. Engages in scholarly activities, and/or creative endeavors which contributes to the academic mission of the university. Develops curriculums, independent study activities, and off-campus learning such as practicums and internships. Renders service to the community relevant to the appropriate academic specialty. Participates collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department and college. Supports the guiding principles of the university embodied in the university’s mission.
Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline. ABD accepted. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university. See preferred qualifications for discipline or program-specific minimum qualifications.
PhD in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field and 5 years or relevant industry experience. ABD will be considered. Experience with the 2+2 College/University technology programs is preferred.
The successful applicant will have a strong background in the following areas: Statics, Dynamics, Property and Strength of Materials, Fluid Power, Thermodynamics, Mechanical Design Elements and Kinematics, Electric Machines and Electric Power, 2-D and 3-D CAD. Additionally the applicant should have basic knowledge in the areas of electronics and electrical systems that relate to Mechatronics.
Advanced knowledge of subject matter and course content of the courses to be taught which may include courses in emphasizing both theory and practice. Topics may include PLC’s, CNC Machines, Industrial Robots, Sensors, Ladder Logic, HMI, networking, PID, Vision Systems, system analysis, motors, controllers, pneumatic, and polymers.
Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques in upper and lower division courses.
Knowledge of student management, motivation, evaluation; evaluation of (peer and self) instruction.
Knowledge of program and curriculum development and evaluation.
Knowledge of and expertise in current trends in education, engaged learning and service learning, learning technologies (e.g. digital technologies for classroom management and distance education), public presenting and report and grant writing.
Effective human relations skills and communication techniques.
Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
Demonstrable technical writing skills.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems.
Ability to work independently.
