Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service, is seeking applicants for the Chair appointment in the newly organized Department of Health Sciences and Informatics within Doisy College of Health Sciences. The University is a Carnegie Research Extensive institution and currently employs over 3,000 full and part-time faculty and enrolls more than 11,000 students in the graduate, professional, and undergraduate programs. Doisy College of Health Sciences has total enrollment of 1630 students across its undergraduate, graduate and professional programs. The newly formed Department of Health Sciences and Informatics brings together the college's faculty, staff and students from four undergraduate and graduate programs in health information management and health sciences.
The position is a full-time, 12-month tenured or tenure-track appointment with rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
General responsibilities include departmental organization, administration and representation; accreditation maintenance; continuous department development and curriculum development and assessment; academic, administrative and financial planning; and effectiveness of the department curriculum, faculty, and staff. The Department Chair will work closely with the Dean, college leadership, faculty and staff in the general operations, research, and strategic planning of the Department of Health Sciences and Informatics. As a full time university faculty member, the chair will also be involved in teaching, student advising, faculty development, research and scholarly activities, and service to the university and community.
Required Position Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, MD) in a field related to the activities of the department
- Minimum of three years of academic administrative experience such as a vice-chair, chair or program director.
- Evidence of excellence in teaching, course development, mentoring.
- Recognized as a scholar in his/her field. Significant record of research with peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations and external funding (preferred).
- Demonstrated leadership, team-building and change-management skills.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships and programs within Doisy College and the university as a whole.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with program evaluation and accreditation.
The newly formed department merges the Department of Health Informatics and Information Management, which has an 80 year history at SLU, and the Department of Health Sciences which was created 5 years ago to address an important training need for students pursuing careers in healthcare delivery, administration and research. The person selected for this position will help lead the merger of these two departments, develop a unified mission for the new department and develop the strategic plan for excellence in teaching, research and service in the Jesuit tradition, aligning it to college's newly devised strategic map and the university's strategic plan.
