Detailed Job Description

Design and teach assigned courses. Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught Prepares instructional materials (mock-ups, visual aids, and instruction sheets) as necessary. Instructs, manages, and supervises individual and groups in classrooms and laboratories by the following methods:
Demonstration
Discussion
Visual aids
Conferences
Field trips
Evaluates instruction and learning by means of written, oral, practical, and performance tests. Maintains a student-oriented approach to education. Assists in recruitment, advisement, placement, and follow-up of students Recommends students for advancement and graduation. Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up. Coordinates cooperative work experience programs and students as assigned. Establishes and maintains office hours and advises students during this time and at other times as needed. Assists counselors, department chairperson, faculty, and department staff in maintaining an effective program. Requisitions, receives, and checks books, supplies, and equipment necessary for coursework. Serves on committees and attends faculty and other meetings as assigned.
Improves professionally and maintains currency in the courses taught. Reads and utilizes materials found in technical and professional publications; surveys and researches industrial and business establishments; obtains and maintains certification as required; attends professional and specialty courses; keeps abreast of new development trends, and techniques through participation in workshop seminars, actual work experience, and exchange programs with business and industry to maintain skills, state of the art, and knowledge; maintains desirable classroom conditions.  

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have graduated from an accredited institution with an earned PhD in Criminal Justice.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Knowledge of and experience in teaching courses in the area of Criminal Justice.
-Knowledge and skill in current instructional theory, methods, strategies and techniques.
-Knowledge in student management, motivation and evaluation techniques.
-Skill in interpersonal relations, problem-solving and decision making
-Evidence of potential for scholarly work
-Ability to community effectively both orally and in writing to a diverse group
-Ability to apply multimedia hardware/software in classroom teaching.
