Detailed Job Description
The Department of Sociology and Gerontology seeks a Department Chair to provide academic and administrative leadership and to manage the work of the department.
Specific duties and responsibilities include: budget oversight; curriculum development and implementation; recruitment and professional development of faculty (including promotion and tenure recommendations); recommendations to the Dean for faculty teaching and workload assignments, and for faculty and unclassified staff merit-based salary increases; hiring and supervision of staff; management of departmental office operations; communication of University and College policies and practices to the department; representation of the department to the College, University, and broader publics.
The position requires a Ph.D., tenure in the Department of Sociology and Gerontology at Miami University, and the rank of associate or full professor. It should be noted that preference will be given to applicants with the rank of full professor. An excellent record of accomplishment in teaching and research, and administrative experiences suggesting a demonstrated ability to lead an academic department, are also required.
