Detailed Job Description
The Institute for the Environment and Sustainability seeks a Director to provide leadership for the five interdisciplinary graduate and undergraduate academic programs of the Institute, and to build on existing grants and partnerships in the areas of environmental science and sustainability.
The Director will coordinate with chairs and directors of other academic units in furthering the interdisciplinary programs of the Institute, pursue external funding, maintain active scholarship, teach appropriate courses, recruit and advise students, and engage in alumni and donor development. The Director will supervise the core faculty and staff of the Institute, including three instructional faculty and four staff members. There are over 30 faculty affiliates who participate in the programs of the Institute.
The position requires a PhD, a tenured appointment as an associate or full professor at Miami University, and a teaching and research agenda that aligns with the mission of the Institute.
Preference will be given to applicants from the natural sciences that have full professor rank, a strong record of interdisciplinary scholarship and externally funded research, and professional experience in applied environmental and sustainability issues.

The Institute was founded in 1969 as the Institute of Environmental Science and its Master of Environmental Science degree program has produced nearly 700 alumni who have pursued careers in public and private sectors. In 2010, it was reorganized as an umbrella institute for environmental and sustainability programs and now has three interdisciplinary undergraduate co-majors in environmental science, sustainability, and energy, as well as a minor in global sustainability.
