Detailed Job Description

This position is a key player on the New Student Orientation (NSO) department leadership team and provides input and knowledge in creating and implementing the overall vision, mission and objectives of the office. This person is specifically responsible for creating and implementing orientation sessions for incoming students with particular emphasis in on-campus and online orientations for transfer students. In addition, the NSO Coordinator will develop and facilitate parent/family orientation sessions in Spanish. The NSO Coordinator will oversee the upkeep of the departmental website and social media outlets, as well as coordinate room, AV and catering reservations for all orientation programming. The NSO Coordinator will manage the day-to-day office operations, directly supervise 4-12 Student Office Assistants and 2 Student Coordinators and assist the Director and Assistant Director with student employee recruitment, hiring, training and performance evaluations throughout the academic year.


30% Develop and implement orientation programming for parents/families of incoming MSU Denver students in English and Spanish
20% Create and implement orientation programming for incoming students, with particular emphasis in on-campus and online transfer student sessions
20% Create, maintain and manage departmental website and social media programming
10% Assist with program development including department vision, mission and goals
10% Supervision of student employees (office assistants and student coordinators)and management of day-to-day office operations
10% Other duties as assigned

Support the vision, mission and objectives of the University, Academic and Student Affairs, Enrollment Services and the New Student Orientation Office.
Work as a member of the NSO Leadership team to provide a high level of service to incoming students, their parent/family members, MSU Denver and the greater Denver community. Commitment to create an environment of inclusive excellence.
The NSO Coordinator will work closely with a wide variety of departments and offices within the MSU Denver community including First Year Success, Academic Advising, Financial Aid, Admissions, Transfer Services, Counseling Center, Student Activities, etc. The Coordinator will also interact with offices within AHEC, outside catering companies, housing community representatives and a variety of vendors and community businesses.

Required Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree
•A minimum of 3 years work experience in a college/university setting as a student employee or graduate assistant (or) 1 year as a full-time professional employee.
•Fluency in Spanish and English in both written and verbal communications.
•Experience working with diverse, urban populations in an educational environment.
•Experience providing supervision and performance management to staff.
•Experience creating and implementing programming and facilitating workshops.

Preferred Qualifications

•Master’s Degree in Student Affairs or related field.
•Must be able to work some evenings and weekends during peak orientation seasons (April-August and November-January).
•At least three years of experience using Microsoft Office Suite ( Word, Access, Excel, Power Point, Outlook ) and Photo shop.
•Must possess knowledge and understanding of Social Media Outlets.
•Experience providing customer service to multiple constituents.
•Work experience in an orientation, enrollment services or other related student affairs area.
