Detailed Job Description

The Administrative position of Student System Senior Programmer/Analyst is responsible for providing senior support to the Student and related systems including: business analysis, systems analysis and design, program development and systems support with the Banner ERP system and related modules like the Enrollment Management suite and other integrated systems. Position will complete technical analysis and design of solutions in support of maintenance related activities; complete program development and documentation; manage the Student team work load during Student System Manager absences; and mentor student team members.
Position works additional hours, as needed and completes other related duties as assigned.


20% Business Analysis: Consultation with users and analysis of business related processes. Consults with university departments to understand business requirements for streamlining operations, systems development, and solution implementation. Attend meetings on behalf of the student system manager. Also consults with university departments to analyze/troubleshoot business process problems.

30% Systems Analysis and Design: Evaluate problems or needs and design solutions. These solutions incorporate researching and understanding the software environment as well as current industry conventions and standards. Build functional specifications based on this analysis. Then, using knowledge of data models, process models and existing environments, create new processes or modify existing processes, file structures, access methods, input procedures, output files, reports, and interfaces. Determine and document security and control needs. Write programming specifications, control documents and any input, output or processing handling documents, making sure that they are at an understandable level for other team members to follow.

25% Program Development: Develop program code following specifications and appropriate industry standards using development tools such as Oracle PL/SQL, Java, C, Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports, Groovy and Grails, html, xml and web Services software and programming languages. Develop test data that will appropriately exercise the program code and validate the functionality called for in the specifications. Works with Spring MVC, Hibernate, Subversion.

20% Provide guidance of junior team members on system development and, in the absence of the Student System Manager, oversees the workload management, monitoring of task completion, and attends meetings.

5% Other Duties as Assigned

Required Qualifications

•Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree in a computer related field.
•6 years of experience performing duties in a Higher Education information technology environment.
•Experience providing application development and support which included coding in Oracle SQL and PL/SQl.
•Experience providing consultation with users and university departments to develop systems and solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

•Technical experience working with the Ellucian Banner suite products.
•Technical experience supporting Higher Education Student Information systems.
•Experience with, Pro*C, Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports, Oracle Apex, Java, Groovy, xml, web services.
•Effective organizational skills that include the ability manage workload, and to multi-task.
•Advanced understanding of developing reports using GOGNOS and other report writing tools.
•Knowledge of Cognos Framework Manager.
•Experience with workload and task management.
•Familiarity with Spring MVC, Hibernate, Subversion.
