The University of Alabama’s interdisciplinary New College invites applications for a Full-Time Instructor in the area of the Arts and Creativity. We seek a critically engaged instructor with at least two years of teaching experience at the college-level and additional experience as an arts practitioner and undergraduate student advisor. This full-time instructor position begins August 16, 2015 and is renewable based on funding availability and performance review. Candidates with specific expertise in creative work with technology and digital fabrication or expertise coordinating active and collaborative arts projects will receive special consideration. Candidates must have successfully completed at least a Masters level program relevant to their field of artistic practice or academic study. Preference will be given to candidates with MFA or PhD credentials.
The successful candidate will be appointed to New College within the University’s College of Arts and Sciences. She or he will teach courses in an interdisciplinary teaching program within New College (potentially including a large-scale “Experiencing the Arts” introductory arts course, lower-level “Creativity” seminar, and upper-level interdisciplinary seminars focusing on the arts production and arts management). Required also is the ability to advise a diverse group of students with varied interests in the arts, technology, and creativity, but who also venture into new media, critical theory, arts policy, and management.
