Detailed Job Description

The Instructor will report directly to the Dean of the School and will provide 15-16 credit hours of instruction per semester of freshman and sophomore level biology classes.

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities include instruction which could include the following courses: Introduction to Biology; Ecology; Vertebrate or Invertebrate Zoology (depending on experience) and Environmental Conservation. Responsibilities will also include organizing and maintaining laboratories in biology; developing and revising instructional materials as appropriate; keeping student records; assessing students; advising students; maintaining a safe laboratory environment; maintaining a minimum of 4 office hours per week; assisting in recommending and orienting part-time faculty; and working with college councils and committees as assigned. Other duties as related and assigned by the Dean of the School. Instruction times will include day and evening courses, and may include instruction at the main campus, east campus (Aztec) or the west campus (Kirtland).


• A Master’s Degree in Biology with emphasis in Ecology, or a closely related field plus two years of related full-time teaching/educational experience in a post-secondary setting will is required. • PhD or ABD is preferred. • Teaching experience at a community college, with demonstrated interest in creating student-centered interactive courses is desired. • The successful candidate will be a dynamic teacher with a strong commitment to the community college experience and learning college philosophy. • The candidate should value diversity and have experience teaching in multicultural and adult student environments. •

Starting Salary

Commensurate with educational background and teaching experience according to placement on the San Juan College faculty salary scale.
