UVU PREP Introduction to Probability and Statistics teacher will manage instructional time to teach probability and statistics curriculum for one 50 minute class section Monday-Thursday to groups of 25 students aged 14-15 for seven weeks. Curriculum will be provided but will need to be tailored to student needs. A Teaching Assistant will be assigned to each teacher to help with classroom instruction, behavior management, grading assignments, etc.
UVU PREP Introduction to Probability and Statistics teacher will coordinate hands-on problem-based labs with the Teaching Assistant assigned to support their students learning.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in a field related to the Summary of Duties. Certain programs may require professional an educator license or extensive specialized industry experience, see preferred qualifications for additional requirements.
Level 3 Utah State Mathematics certification.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a related field and 3 years of experience teaching or working in a related field as established by the department.
Knowledge of probability theory: counting procedures, addition rule, multiplication rule, and independence.
Knowledge of probability models: binomial, Poisson, exponential, and normal.
Knowledge of descriptive statistics: tables and charts, measures of center, and measures of spread.
Knowledge of analytical statistics: confidence intervals for means and proportions, tests of hypothesis for means and proportions, and simple regression.
Skill in leading classroom discussions/activities
Skill in assessing student work according to general instructional standards.
Ability to utilize effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records.
Ability to supervise three classes of 25 middle school students.
