Detailed Job Description
Individual academic advising for College of Arts and Science students on the Oxford campus and University Studies and College of Arts and Science students at the regional campuses in Hamilton and Middletown.
The primary focus for this position will be advising and assisting students who are interested in relocating to Oxford and students who are attending multiple campuses. The Academic Advisor will conduct office hours at all three campuses. Academic advising includes: providing accurate and current curricular information, assisting in academic planning and decision-making, providing counsel with regard to academic program changes, providing information with regard to career and professional development of liberal arts students, and referring to appropriate university resources and offices. Additional responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, presentations to students interested in multi-campus registration or relocation, review and update website information for campus relocation, program planning and coordination for special groups of students including University Studies, new transfer, and prospective students. Other duties as assigned by the Deans or Assistant Deans of the College of Arts and Science and Regional Campuses.
Master's degree, preferably in higher education, counseling, or college student personnel; at least two years of experience in advising or counseling in a university or community college setting. Relevant experience gained during a graduate program may also apply. Reliable transportation is required to travel between campuses (standard university mileage reimbursement is provided).
An understanding of student development theory and an understanding of the purpose and advantages of a liberal arts education; experience in working with diverse student populations; excellent written and oral communication (including public speaking), organization, collaborative skills, and technological skills for webinar development.
