Contributes to the professional and educational development of specialty/support/academic advisors, advising administrators, and students. Coordinates the development, implementation and maintenance of advisor certification and common training programs; develops outstanding training and development sessions; and by coaches advisors regarding training requirements and effective advising practices.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in directly related field of study or a combination of education and experience totaling four years.
Experience with a variety of career assessments and inventories (i.e. Myers Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory, Campbell Interest and Skills Survey, FOCUS, etc.)
Knowledge of higher education student advisement and retention principles, techniques, programs and products.
Knowledge of research methodology as applied to the fields of advising/counseling and training. Knowledge of training and professional development principles, techniques, programs and products.
Knowledge of instructional technologies and software products, and various computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, media internet tools, email systems, performance monitoring tools, social media, and other general computer programs.
Knowledge of advisement principles and current career outlook.
Skill in advising/counseling.
Skill in the development of effective in-person and online training programs.
Skill in analyzing needs and designing/developing applicable training and materials.
Skill in effective and engaging presentations.
Ability to perform under pressure and think quickly. Ability to operate and effectively use a variety of digital media technologies especially instructional design and technology products.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with university officials.
Ability to research and prepare proposals.
Service oriented, diplomatic, and able to present ideas in user-friendly language.
