Detailed Job Description

The Associate Director of Prospect Research is a member of the Prospect Research department within the University Advancement Division. The Associate Director reports directly to the Director of Prospect Research. The research unit assists with the division's fundraising efforts and alumni outreach programs by identifying and researching prospective donors and volunteers from Miami's constituency base. The scope of research tasks and duties is determined by the division vice president and director of advancement services.


- Proactively research leadership and major gift prospects to determine gift potential and recommend high-level volunteers for key engagement opportunities including board positions.
- Oversee all discovery, qualification and assignment of parent prospects.
- Carry the most challenging research support responsibilities (Arts & Science, Business, Athletics, Student Affairs, or others as directed).
- Work with the department's director to develop goals, maximize use of resources and execute best practices for prospect research and management.
- Keep abreast of research methods and resources by attending training sessions and networking with other research professionals via organizational memberships, conferences, and electronic mailing lists focusing on prospect research and fundraising issues.
- Develop and lead training sessions for development and alumni staff. Assist with training and development of Research Associates.
- Provide immediate support of President, Vice President for University Advancement and AVP for Advancement in director's absence.
- Assist in departmental and divisional projects and serve on related committees as needed.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and minimum of two years related experience in research or development/alumni relations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Computer literacy especially in relation to Windows, SCT Banner, MInE, MS Office products, Lexis-Nexis, iWave, High Net Worth Alert and Blackbaud products.
