Montana State University Billings is the third largest University in Montana and is located in Montana’s largest city.  The University campus and City College together are home to approximately 5,000 students.  The University has five colleges, which offer a wide variety of degree programs to its students.  Montana State University Billings employs approximately 500 employees, who together work hard to create an outstanding University.

 The city of Billings, MT is a community of approximately 109,000 people located between rugged mountains and sweeping plains.  As the largest city in Montana, Billings is a center for business and services in many areas, including finance, retail, transportation, agriculture, and oil and gas industries. Montana State University Billings is a teaching-oriented institution, and excellence in teaching is its primary focus.  The College of Business (COB) is accredited by AACSB. The COB has an undergraduate program, the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with available emphasis in five areas.

The Assistant Professor of Management will be responsible for teaching the capstone course, Business Strategy, using
both live and online delivery methods.  The normal course load for this position is seven sections each academic year.  Release time will also be provided for community client relations as it relates to the business strategy course.  The business strategy course provides students with practical experience in creating business plans and providing strategic advice to clients from regional businesses.  Within the last five years, over 90 regional companies have benefitted from this student interaction.

 Instruction of an additional course in a management area such as Principles of Management, Small Business Management, or International Business may be required to fulfill contractual obligations.  Scholarly activity and publication is required.  Faculty service and contribution to the maintenance of the college’s AACSB accreditation is expected.


  •  Ph.D. or Doctorate in Management,or Business Administration with a Managementemphasis.
  • ABD’s will be considered but degree must be completed before starting at MSUB.

  • Ability and interest in undergraduate teaching

  • Experience researching & ability to execute a research agenda.

  • An ability to teach students teams in a live-client environment.

  • Ability and willingness to develop and teach online sections/courses


  • Previous private sector/practical experience in related areas

  • Ability to guide student teams in their creation of business plans and management of client relations

  • Ability to maintain and grow community business clients for use in the business strategy course

  • Record of refereed journal publications
