Greenfield Community College is located in the beautiful and historic Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts, between the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains and the fertile farmland of the Connecticut River watershed. GCC is a public community college of approximately 2,200 students. Known for the caring and supportive attitude of the faculty and staff, and for the broad support it enjoys from the surrounding community, the college is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. In addition to a strong Liberal Arts focus, the College offers a wide variety of innovative and successful programs including Gender and Women’s Studies, Fine Arts, Nursing, Renewable Energy, and Outdoor Leadership, as well as varied learning environments, from traditional classrooms, to distance learning, peer tutoring, one-on-one faculty-student advising, workforce development, and learning communities that cater to specific needs and interests. Close to fifty percent of Greenfield Community College students transfer to four-year colleges, and it is Smith College’s largest source of community college transfer students. Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Under the supervision of the Chief Academic and Student Affairs Officer, the Dean leads enrollment services units including: Admission, Testing, Medical Records, Financial Aid, Registrar, and Educational Support Programs which includes advising, counseling and disability services. The focus of the position is on recruitment, enrollment, a systematic communications plan with incoming students, and the implementation of innovative and engaging student outreach and retention events. The Dean is responsible for establishing priorities and plans; overseeing and contributing to daily program operations; collection, analysis, and use of data for improvement; facilitating staff development and a collaborative work environment; and budget management for assigned units. Position responsibilities also include collaborating with other campus student support programs and related grant projects; supporting the role of faculty and department leaders in enrollment events; ensuring enhanced web presence of enrollment service programs; implementation of quality services to support the growing number of online learners; and active engagement in shared governance including collaboration with other deans and contributions to the President’s Staff.


EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Works with relevant directors to develop and implement integrated recruitment and enrollment plans for on-campus and online students; sets related priorities; designs and utilizes results from related assessment activities in the revision of programs and design of new ones;
  • Supports staff in implementing well-organized and advertised activities to achieve strong student enrollment and facilitates partnerships with other units leading to successful new student registration and retention;
  • Provides hands-on leadership in daily operations; directly supervises the Director of Admission, Director of Financial Aid, Director of Educational Support, and Registrar including facilitation of new projects, end-of-year reporting, annual personnel evaluations, and structuring of yearly assessment activities;
  • Provides mentoring and guidance for directors and staff; fosters inclusive and collaborative work environment; actively participates in the recruitment and orientation of directors and staff;
  • Provides oversight of special projects including annual federal/state financial aid audits, execution of Title IX administration with students, and ensuring compliance with College, state, and federal laws, policies and regulations;
  • Collaborates with directors to utilize enrollment data and trend analyses, relevant student and community demographic data, and other statistical information to guide planning and program improvement; shares relevant data with staff and with the Chief Academic and Student Affairs Officer, and President’s Staff;
  • Collaborates with directors and units across the college to contribute to successful enrollment and retention initiatives;
  • Works with directors to develop and manage annual budgets for relevant units;
  • Fosters collaboration between student and academic affairs personnel in order to enhance recruiting and enrollment;
  • Serves on the deans working group and President’s Staff; participates in shared governance processes;
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of grants related to work of supervised units and related initiatives;
  • Facilitates activities and programs that strengthen collaborative student-centered relationships with the local community and relevant regional and state agencies and organizations;
  • Ensures and coordinates use of the web and other technology resources to improve student communication, recruiting, and retention;
  • Manages the judicial process including meeting with students and coordinating the judicial process committee;
  • Coordinates the implementation of the Student Conduct Process and policy;
  • Implements activities that support the open admission and quality education mission of the college;
  • Performs special projects and related responsibilities as initiated and requested;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Directly supervises the activities and performance of relevant program leaders, including the Director of Admission, Director of Financial Aid, Director of Educational Support, and Registrar; works with directors to facilitate the effectiveness of those working in these units.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, Public Policy or related field;
  • Six years of progressive higher education administrative leadership experience that includes leadership in enrollment services and admissions;
  • Ability to create a collaborative and supportive work environment and to contribute to a positive learning environment for students through the enrollment processes;
  • A track record of producing programmatic innovation and positive changes that support student enrollment and new-student success;
  • Experience working with and supporting educational success of students with diverse cultures, experiences, circumstances, and backgrounds;
  • Record of promoting support for diversity, inclusion and mutual respect;
  • Experience using enrollment and assessment information or other relevant data for planning; ability to use data-based management systems for planning and program improvement;
  • Comfortable using technology and supporting new applications of technology to enhance communications with incoming students;
  • Knowledge and experience with collective bargaining agreements and the ability to work effectively within these agreements;
  • Evidence of commitment to the community college mission including access, student success, and the ability to apply a learning-centered approach to leadership responsibilities;
  • Budget management experience;
  • Ability to collaborate across campus on key activities such as recruitment, enrollment, and retention initiatives;
  • Experience designing and implementing integrated planning activities;
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills including the ability to support multiple programs with varying deadlines and needs; ability to guide multiple student services offices with intersecting missions;
  • Ability to articulate a clear vision and priorities for program development and implementation;
  • Problem-solving skills to address day-to-day operations and emergencies;
  • Ability and desire to mentor new and experienced professionals;
  • Excellent public speaking and facilitation skills with small and large groups;
  • Excellent writing and reporting skills;
  • Ability to guide and grow programs including those that include community partnerships;
  • Experience contributing to implementation of a student judicial process.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctorate in higher education, student development, or other field related to the position;
  • Leadership experience in enrollment services in an open-admissions institution;
  • Demonstrated program development experience in a community college setting;
  • Experience managing student conduct or student judicial systems;
  • Experience developing and implementing an integrated recruiting and admissions plan along with related marketing plans;
  • Experience with grant development and management in an area directly related to this position;
  • Teaching or training experience at the college level.
