Detailed Job Description

This is a 10 month full time position and reports directly to the Director of Education Programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Director is responsible for the overall operation of the Child and Family Development Center, which serves as a laboratory preschool and teacher training facility for students in early childhood education, nursing and psychology and the Family Resource Center, which provides family related services to the local community. Responsibilities include managing operating budgets, overseeing building maintenance and repair, supervising staff, assist with the planning of the center expansions, grant writing, preparing related reports, managing records as required by the college and the State of New Mexico, and making sure the center meets all state and federal requirements for operation. The individual will maintain positive relations with children, college students, families, local community and the College’s instructional programs. Individual may be asked to teach an occasional course in early childhood education and child development. Other duties include service on institutional committees and completing other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Education Programs.


A Masters Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or a closely related field (Elementary Education, Public School Administration, etc.):at least two years of child development facility supervision and two years of experience supervising teachers of young children required. Must meet requirements for a director of an NAEYC accredited center director. Infant/Toddler experience and/or knowledge highly desirable. Experience directing a college laboratory school strongly preferred. Skills in conflict resolution, written and oral communications, and accreditation processes are required. Experience working within a multicultural environment and to articulate an educational philosophy consistent with the goals of a comprehensive community college is also highly desirable.

Physical Requirements: Varied sitting, standing, bending, walking. Ability to lift up to 25lbs related equipment/office supplies. All candidates are subject to a Criminal Background Investigation prior to any offer of employment.

Starting Salary

$40,000 - $45,000
