The Assistant Chief will provide supervision of the Aviation Sciences Department’s flight training courses and related instructional activities under the direction of the Chief Flight Instructor and in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines and departmental policies. This position provides management and oversite for both the Certified Flight Instructors and students training in the department. The Assistant Chief Instructors provide a key leadership role in flight operations, flight training, and safety.
Bachelor’s degree and at least one year experience related to the essential duties or at least five years experience related to the essential duties.
Must meet FAR part 141 assistant chief qualifications. Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree and three years experience related to the essential duties, or Master’s degree from an accredited institution and at least one year experience related to the essential duties.
Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations, including Parts 61 and 141.
Knowledge of standard pilot training practices.
Skill in both piloting and teaching techniques.
Skill to make safe effective decisions both on the ground and in the air.
Ability to maintain proficiency and currency relating to required pilot and instructor privileges.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to use standard word processing and general computer applications.
