Miami University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Arts and Science. Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean is responsible for the overall academic, administrative, and fiscal leadership of the CAS.
The Dean provides intellectual and creative leadership, collaborates with academic programs in planning, reviewing, and developing activities, and works cooperatively and closely with faculty and administrative staff, other deans, and University leaders.
Continuing the ongoing work of the Dean's office, the next Dean will complete a college-wide review of curricular requirements that is well underway and will continue to progress in the work of realigning departments and programs within the College. CAS seeks in its next Dean an individual who will build upon the solid foundation in place and partner with the Provost, other deans, and faculty to extend and enhance the role of the college as a critical academic unit that will drive the creation and implementation of an ambitious vision for the future of Miami University as articulated in the Miami University 2020 strategic plan, "Moments that Transform." The next Dean will lead the CAS in implementing this strategic plan to offer, "the best undergraduate experience in the nation, enhanced by superior, select graduate programs" with transparency and fairness. The next Dean will preserve an identity for the college that embraces and capitalizes on the diversity of its offerings in the humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and interdisciplinary programs, and positions the CAS to expand its externally-funded research endeavors.
Terminal degree in one of the disciplines represented in CAS and qualify for appointment at the rank of professor in one of its twenty-two departments; proven record of developing, communicating, and implementing a vision and strategic programs in an academic setting.
Evidence of ability to cultivate alumni relations and development; demonstrated financial and budgetary acumen.
