Detailed Job Description

Assist the Chief of Public Safety in implementing and managing the Public Safety function at Quinnipiac, including supervising campus security officers, direct officer training, and be responsible for crime prevention in accordance with federal, state, and University regulations. Supervise all public safety personnel on his/her shift to insure proper procedures and policies are being carried out.
The Quinnipiac work environment places high value on professionalism, courtesy and customer service to all campus constituents.
NOTE: this role is only open on the Night Shift - 11 pm - 7:45 am.  

Job Duties

Interview and hire public safety personnel.
Evaluate and discipline public safety personnel.
Review investigations and incident reports.
Prepare shift assignments.
Supervise daily security operation and trouble shooting.
Responsible for department vehicles and public safety equipment.
Direct the training program for all public safety personnel.
Participate in establishing and implementing standard and emergency policies and procedures.
Participate in the strategic planning and development of the department, to be consistent with that of the University's mission.
Participate in preparing and reviewing the departmental budget.
Serve as Quinnipiac's liaison and representative for students, parents, staff and general public.
Serve as a Quinnipiac liaison and representative with state, local and federal law enforcement and life safety agencies.
Develop and maintain external community relationships.
Coordinate and supervise the departments' operation for Quinnipiac's special events and shutdown periods.
Ensure safe and secure working conditions and the proper utilization of staff equipment and materials.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Chief of Public Safety.

Required Minimum Qualifications

- Education: Bachelor's Degree in related area required.
- Experience: Significant supervisory experience in law enforcement, security services or in a security department of a University.
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle license.

Experience in problem solving, exercising sound judgment and maintaining a professional, personable demeanor.
Strong written communication skills; business English, grammar and composition with the ability to
write incident reports.
Organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills and ability to meet deadlines while providing attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
Demonstrated skill in the operation of personal computers and related software (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Discretion and experience maintaining strict confidentiality.
Fluency in a second language is desirable.

Physical Requirements include:
Full range of mobility in upper and lower body and be able to reach overhead.
Ability to lift and/or move 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up top 50 pounds
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.
This position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
