Under direct supervision of the Director of Campus Recreation and Wellness, provides group fitness instruction (Yoga, Zumba, Insanity, Piyo, etc.) for students, staff employees, and local community. Monitors client fitness activity and instructs patrons regarding proper fitness training and fitness safety. Instructs clients of all fitness levels and ensures that the physical environment is safe and enjoyable for participants of all fitness levels. Takes initiative to keep current on information pertaining to various class formats. Collaborates generally with other Student Life and Wellness Center staff to promote the use of the department and building.
High school diploma or equivalent plus any special certifications and/or training required in field of specialty.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Possess current Red Cross CPR certification.
Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques.
Knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology and training principles.
Knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo, cueing technique, and rhythm.
Knowledge of programs and services in the Student Life and Wellness Center.
Knowledge of methods for promoting and increasing fitness in patrons.
Skill in interpersonal communication and presenting, particularly with large groups.
Ability to keep the attention and interest of large groups of people.
Ability to teach the specified fitness class and cater to individual and group needs.
Ability to facilitate positive fitness.
Ability to motivate class participants.
Ability to cooperate and work well with other staff members.
