Under the direction of the Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Dean – College of Aviation and Public Services will plan, coordinate, organize, and lead a major academic division of the University and serve as an official member of the Senior Vice President’s staff. The Dean will be responsible for academic and administrative leadership and develop and implement a scholarly and educational vision that includes best practices in state-of-the-art management, educational administration, and assessment techniques and procedures.
Graduation from an accredited institution with an earned doctorate in a field directly related to the academic division; demonstration of achievement of tenure and advancement in rank as a faculty member in an academic department with seven years of professional experience and five years successful administrative experience at the college or university level in higher education. Graduation from an accredited institution with an earned doctorate in aviation sciences, emergency services, law enforcement, public administration, education, organizational management or any closely-related field; demonstration of achievement of tenure and advancement in rank as a faculty member in an academic department with at least seven years of professional experience and five years successful administrative experience at the college or university level in higher education.
Knowledge of the emergency services, criminal justice, or aviation disciplines is preferred.
Knowledge of teaching methodologies as it relates to professions within the college.
Knowledge of supervisory methods/techniques of professional disciplines and academic programs.
Knowledge of professional credentialing, accreditation, and certification.
Knowledge of academic program assessment, accreditation, and program review standards and processes.
Knowledge of technology-enhanced educational best practices.
Skill in curriculum planning and development.
Skill in the management of hard and soft funded professional academic programs.
Skill in fundraising and grant development.
Skill in the management and advocacy of non-traditional education and training programs.
Ability to develop an organization and conduct program and staff evaluations.
Ability to conduct strategic and long-range planning.
Ability to exercise interpersonal, public relations, problem solving, and decision making skills.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Ability to oversee and cultivate substantial non-appropriated funding sources.
Personal qualities of integrity, organization, enthusiasm, and industriousness.
