Teaches undergraduate graphic design courses, mentor and motivate students to excel and create compelling work, maintain an appropriate level of peer recognition for professional graphic design work, and serve on departmental, school or university committees. If requested, must be willing to serve as area coordinator. Coordinator duties include overseeing curriculum, instruction and student activities, overseeing labs, scheduling of courses, hire, train, and oversee adjunct instructors and coordinate the program budget.
Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline. ABD accepted. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university. MFA, MA or equivalent in communication/interaction design or related field of study.
Three to five years of college level graphic design teaching experience preferred.
Thorough working knowledge of Macintosh computers.
Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques in upper and lower division courses.
Knowledge of student management, motivation, evaluation; evaluation of (peer and self) instruction.
Knowledge of program and curriculum development and evaluation.
Knowledge of and expertise in current trends in education, engaged learning and service learning, learning technologies (e.g. digital technologies for classroom management and distance education), public presenting and report.
Skill in professional design.
Extensive experience with HTML, CSS, and Java script.
Experience with AfterEffects and/or Cinema 4D a plus.
Skill in verbal and written communication.
Skill in time management and organizational.
Skill in problem solving.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to interpret the university’s core values.
