Detailed Job Description

Teaches undergraduate courses in Secondary Mathematics Education (content and methods courses) and Elementary Mathematics Education (content courses) as well as other lower-division mathematics courses as needed. Engages in scholarly work and remains active and current in mathematics education. Serves on committees and in other appointments which provide service to the department, college, university or community.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation with a doctorate from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals. Must have experience assessing student learning capabilities and learning styles and understand how to develop curriculum of assigned courses.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a Ph.D. in mathematics education and a master’s degree in mathematics as well experience in teaching K-12 mathematics.

Knowledge

-Knowledge of current trends in mathematics education and curriculum.
-Knowledge of the use of technology in the mathematics classroom.

Skills

Skill in the teaching of mathematics and the preparation of teachers of mathematics.
Skill in interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and decision-making.

Abilities

Ability to evaluate effectively student performance and comprehension.
Ability to mentor or supervise mathematics education majors.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Ability to mentor or supervise mathematics education majors.
Ability to engage in scholarly work.
Ability to serve effectively on committees and in other appointments that meet the needs of the department, college, university or community.
Ability to interact with students, staff, and other faculty members in a collegial and productive manner.
