UVU PREP Engineering teacher will manage instructional time to teach physics based Engineering curriculum for three 50 minute class sections Monday-Thursday to groups of 25 students aged 12-13 for seven weeks. Curriculum will be provided but will need to be tailored to student needs. A Teaching Assistant will be assigned to each teacher to help with classroom instruction, behavior management, grading assignments, etc. UVU PREP Engineering teacher will coordinate hands-on problem-based labs with the Teaching Assistant assigned to support their students learning.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in a field related to the Summary of Duties. Certain programs may require professional an educator license or extensive specialized industry experience, see preferred qualifications for additional requirements.
Graduation from accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physical Science, Physics, or other related fields and 3 years of experience teaching or working in a related field.
Knowledge of Engineering, Physical Science, Physics or other related field as indicated by the department.
Knowledge of instruction and student motivation techniques.
Knowledge of the history and philosophy of engineering, the engineering design process and mathematical tools.
Knowledge of the use of computers in engineering, engineering ethics and standards of professionalism, and the job focus and also requirements for career preparation for various types of engineering fields.
Skill in leading classroom discussions/activities.
Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
Ability to teach basic engineering principles in the areas of work and energy, simple machines, light and optics, thermal science, and mechanics.
Ability to teach students the relevance of distribution math and its link to engineering and study electrical engineering.
Ability to teach students to apply the engineering design process and design a sound demixing device and describe techniques related to multi-channel surround sound.
Ability to participating in and supporting informal learning activities.
Ability to participate in UVU PREP staff meetings training events.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records
