Job Responsibilities

Responds to, investigates, and resolves issues reported by end-users for the entire Ellucian Banner environment, including the core application, the associated Oracle databases, and all interfaced applications provided by Ellucian (ODS/EDW, Flexible Registration, DegreeWorks, etc.)

Monitors and optimizes the performance of all associated databases and server environments

Maintains the Oracle database software and middleware (Weblogic, tomcat, etc.) server software

Maintains the associated servers (Windows, Linux, UNIX, etc.) as necessary

Maintains all Ellucian disaster recovery environments

Develops and maintains the necessary troubleshooting documentation

Cross-trains team members to ensure support continuity

Updates the associated application architecture diagrams as changes are made

Maintains SQL queries for applications interfaced to Banner

Acts as primary liaison to the Ellucian HelpDesk for issue resolution

Applies security patches (database and application) as necessary

Develops and maintains scripts (shell, perl, etc.) as necessary

Recommends the necessary server configurations (disk, memory, etc.) in order to support new Ellucian applications

Configures the middleware server software and installs new Ellucian applications as necessary

Applies software patches and performs major upgrades for all Ellucian applications and Oracle environments

Installs and configures new Oracle databases as necessary to support new Ellucian applications

Installs, upgrades, and maintains vendor software, including the associated server environments

Develops SQL queries to interface 3rd party applications to Banner

Installs and configures new databases (Oracle, MS SQL Server, etc.) for vendor software, as well as internally developed custom software solutions

Applies security patches (database and application) as necessary

Develops and maintains scripts (shell, perl, etc.) as necessary

Acts as primary liaison to the vendor HelpDesk for issue resolution

Identifies and evaluates new tools and solutions for improved database and server management

Performs capacity planning (disk, memory, etc.), as well as short-term and long-term upgrade planning

Provides analysis, consultation, and recommendations to project teams, especially as they relate to the Banner environment

Identifies cross-training and documentation opportunities

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

Bachelor’s Degree in I.T., Computer Science, or related field and/or a minimum of five years of full-time professional experience in a related field

Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team

Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem solving methods in adaptive situations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently

Possesses working knowledge of UNIX shell scripting concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use in varied situations as it pertains to the departmental focus

Possesses working knowledge of J2EE applications and Perl concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use in varied situations as it pertains to the departmental focus

Demonstrated basic Visio skills

Demonstrated basic Project Management skills

Possess intermediate proficiency with ERP Banner System (or equivalent program)

Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Access

Demonstrated advanced proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity

Ability to collaborate, persuade, gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas on significant projects

Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance work flow and quality

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

Demonstrated experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager and Grid Control focusing on database administration

Demonstrated experience with WebLogic installations

Demonstrated experience with Banner ERP System

Demonstrated Linux experience, especially from an installation and configuration perspective

Demonstrated disaster recovery experience

Work Schedule

Standard college business hours, M-F 8:30am – 5:00pm.
