Quinnipiac is looking for a highly talented and creative Web writer/editor to join the communications team. This unique role requires the ability to think strategically about communicating with external audiences online, and write engaging, Web-friendly copy that highlights the University's programs, events and people. The Web Editor/writer will write, edit and manage content for Quinnipiac's Web communications initiatives including every facet of Quinnipiac, from student stories, faculty accomplishments, alumni undertakings, special event coverage and academic specific programs. The writer/editor will work with multiple constituencies to oversee and manage the creation and acquisition of content for the University's Web site and ensure site content is accurate, well-crafted, engaging, meets Web style standards and aligns with the Quinnipiac strategic plan. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated and exhibit strong attention to detail with ability to handle multiple priorities at any given time.The successful candidate will be able to plan, communicate and deliver shared content across multiple platforms.
 

Job Duties

1.Create new Web content by conducting interviews & writing profiles of students, faculty and alumni, as well as generating marketing copy for academic sections of Web site;



2.Work closely with faculty and staff members to create and enhance Web content that furthers the University's marketing goals;



3.Manage published content to ensure timely up-to-date information is posted while properly archiving out of date content;



4.Edit and proofread content contributed by other writers, and content creators across campus departments who generate Web content through the content managements system; ensure consistency with University style guide and AP style;



5.Generate press releases and content for internal communications portal as needed;



6.Edit and proofread electronic newsletters and press releases written by PR staff;



7.Act as an academic department liaison and cultivate productive relationships with key Quinnipiac administrators, faculty and staff;



8.Occasional coverage of University events outside of normal business hours;



9.Select and edit photos and graphics for use on the Web;



10.Coordinate photo shoots with selected subjects and freelance photographers;



11.Plan and communicate ways to deliver content created for the Web across multiple platforms.
 

Required Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree,

- Three to five years professional experience writing, producing and managing content for an online medium with a thorough understanding of writing and editing expressly for the Web;

- Experience working in a higher education environment;

- Excellent proofreading/editing skills;

- Experience writing for publication and thorough knowledge of AP Style;

- Solid interpersonal, relationship-building and collaboration skills,

- Understanding of use of the Web for creating integrated and strategic communications for external constituents;

- Project management experience;

- Excellent communication skills;

- Ability to manage multiple priorities

- Previous experience as an administrator/power user of a content management system to create and manage Web content;

- Experience working with standard Web tools and programming languages (html/xhtml, CSS, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Dreamweaver);

- Must be comfortable learning new software

- Experience in creating, editing and optimizing graphics and images for use on the Web;
 

Desired Minimum Qualifications

- Experience with best practices of information architecture, structuring and organizing content, and usability is preferred;

- A strong understanding of search engine optimization and keyword placement
