Working Hours
One full-time (10 months per year), tenure-track faculty position in the Mathematics Department, beginning in August 2015. 

The standard work week for this position is forty (40) hours. The standard instructional work week shall consist of thirty (30) hours of instructional time, curriculum development, preparation and student evaluation. The remaining time will consist of five (5) hours of student engagement (of which at least two (2) hours must be designated office hours), and five (5) hours of departmental activities and collegial governance (i.e., institutional service). The person selected for this position will be subject to assignment to any district facility during any hours of operation. 

Basic Function and Other Details
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION: 
The Mathematics Department serves to prepare all students at MiraCosta College to meet their educational goals, be it meeting minimum qualifications for a certificate or Associate degree, or fulfilling general education requirements in order to transfer. MiraCosta College offers an Associate degree in Mathematics. Our department currently consists of 17 full-time faculty members committed to providing students with a learning experience that is diverse, rich, and academically rigorous. 

Representative Duties
(E = essential job function) 
Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: 
1. Provide instruction in mathematics in any course in the mathematics sequence from Pre-algebra, Elementary and Intermediate Algebra, Math for Elementary School Teachers, Statistics, Pre-Calculus, Discrete Mathematics, Calculus I, II, and III, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra. (E) 
2. Work in collaboration with other full-time and associate faculty in coordinating curriculum. (E) 
3. Assist in the creation, development and evaluation of courses both online and on-ground, student learning outcomes (SLOs), certificates, and programs. (E) 
4. Participate actively in departmental committees, subcommittees, and projects. (E) 
5. Participate in institutional service, which may include college-wide committee work and collegial governance. (E) 
6. Continue to pursue currency in the profession and in applicable computer technologies. (E)

1. a Master's degree in mathematics or applied mathematics; OR 
2. a Bachelor's degree in either of the above AND a Master's degree in statistics, physics, or mathematics education; OR 
3. a valid California Community College teaching credential in the appropriate subject matter; OR

Desirable Qualifications
The college seeks candidates who have achieved the highest level of professional excellence as demonstrated by: 
1. Recent experience, within the last five years, and demonstrated success in the following areas: teaching the breadth of the developmental math sequence, teaching the breadth of the calculus sequence, statistics, linear algebra, and differential equations. 
2. Excellence in mathematics preparation. 
3. Success in teaching mathematics at the community college or baccalaureate level. 
4. Implementing successful innovations at the pre-transfer level. 
5. Successful and appropriate use of technology, including computers, in an academic setting. 
6. Ability to communicate effectively both in oral and written communication. 
7. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others. 
8. Desire to assist in recruiting students and promoting the Mathematics program through participation in college sponsored events, student clubs, and educational outreach.
